Institute Presentation

The University of Manchester is within the top 50 universities of the word. 25 Nobel Laureates are among the current and former staff and students. Recently about 650 million pounds were invested in creating a world leading campus for teaching, learning and research.

The Faculty of Life Sciences currently has about 200 research groups. The three research groups of Mike White, Dean Jackson and Werner Müller are part of SysmedIBD.

Mike White is Professor for Systems Biology. He is working on the dynamics of the NF-kB signalling pathway for about 10 years and published a key paper in Science in 2004.

Professor Dean Jackson's expertise is to analyse how the nuclear structure and organisation influences gene expression. Key components in gene expression regulations are members of the NF-kB signalling pathway. He generates genomics constructs to visualise NF-kB pathway dynamics.

Werner Müller is the Bill Ford Chair of Cellular Immunology at the University and the scientific coordinator of SysmedIBD. Since the identification of Interleukin-10 as a key regulator of the gut immune system in 1993, he is working on the dissection of the cellular cytokine network.
